STINA URBERG - JEWELLERY ARTIST AND ENTREPRENEUR - CURRENT WITH NEW SUSTAINABLE JEWELLERY COLLECTION AND LAUNCH OF WEB

She designs jewellery from recycled materials, lets life experiences shape her business and sees collaboration as a key component of sustainable business development. Jewellery artist and creator Stina Urberg offers the market climate-smart jewellery art that is skin-friendly and personal with a large dose of caring.

It feels good to be able to choose to work sustainably by running my own business. In addition to the environmental aspect, I prioritise sustainability when it comes to partners, relationships and the workplace environment; it is something that has a natural place within the entire company," says Stina.

There are two main branches of Urberg Designs jewellery. One is festive, wedding and celebratory jewellery, ranging from majestic bridal crowns and corsages to christening jewellery. The other branch is collections of earrings, necklaces, rings and more. Both branches also accommodate statement pieces, one of a kind and multi-functional jewellery.

Covid19, like many others, has meant a transition for Stina and her company. She has had to rethink and change her focus, which in turn has led to a positive development of her business.

I have focused on "laying brick by brick" in building the company, things that over the years have not had their genesis when Urberg Design was my pseudonym, my passion but on a hobby level. Tells Stina. For example, just the other day the web shop was launched that has been in the making for years. It was actually quite emotional when it was there for public viewing. In conjunction with the launch, I also released a brand new collection, "Miara".

I have also developed a new collection concept whereby I release parts of new collections with associated "complementary releases" as I go along, an approach that feels new and stimulating to me in many ways. The first collections under this new concept are called "Dis" and "Gry".

Although recycling generates many positive ripples, both for society at large and on an individual level, there are a few things to keep in mind, says Stina. For example, not all materials are suitable for reuse.

It is important to know what should not or should not be recycled, it can be downright harmful, of course environmentally but not least for the health, both for me as a creator and for the wearer of the jewellery. This is something that I pay a lot of attention to during the selection process.

Stina's tips for those thinking of starting a sustainable business:
  • Don't let the Jantelagen be the reason you don't start your business, instead make room for thoughts that do you good.
  • Dare to talk to people you trust, tell them about your plans, get their opinions and advice, then find out what feels right and proper.
  • And never forget to "dare to ask", what's the worst that can happen? A no, a closed door, some sour comment - it shouldn't stand in the way of you giving your dream a try.
  • Listen to your gut, but don't confuse it with any grumbling from those who may be standing outside and want to bring you down.
