SUMMER EXPRESSION 19 - SUSTAINABLE DESIGN PRODUCTS

Under On Thursday 22 August, eXpression Umeå invited to the opening of the Campus where the students from Summer eXpression 19 showed their products for the first time, and there was great interest among Umeå residents.

Summer eXpression is an intensive summer programme where ten young talents are given the chance to design and go from idea to sale. Focusing on crafts and creativity in close collaboration with local manufacturers, this year's theme was "Outside Inside" with the ambition to inspire. The programme ended with a Vernissage where the students showcased their products.

En of the guests, Cecilia Berglund who runs the company Eco Camp describes the products as surreally well designed:

What creations! The design is on an incredibly high level and that they have been able to produce this in such an intense and short period of time is almost unreal. They have managed to go from idea to creating a product with feeling. The design is fantastic.

Among the guests was Elin Holmberg, who joined the programme last summer and developed the product Ängsfälla, which is now in production and sold all over Sweden.

I find it inspiring to see what they've come up with and they've really managed to create some brilliant products this year.

Following the vernissage, the Designtorget

It feels great to finally show our products that we have been working on during the summer and it is great that so many people came to the opening. Now we're gearing up for September 25th when it's time to launch the products at Designtorget, Oliver Edrén, one of this year's participants at Summer eXpression 19.

Surpassed expectations and great partnerships

Johan Gustafsson, supervisor at Summer eXpression and Barbro Renkel, programme manager, say that the students have exceeded their own expectations and the cooperation with the manufacturers has worked and flowed really well.

It's so much fun! Everyone has lots of great products this year and we've had great cooperation with our manufacturers and pretty much everyone has received their prototypes in good time too," says Johan.

It's amazing what students can achieve in just six weeks, from idea to finished product. Furthermore, we give students the opportunity to develop their entrepreneurship through the eXpress programme with us," says Barbro.
