Create the safe and attractive Umeå of the future during Prototype Week

We are now looking for students or entrepreneurs in design and architecture who want to contribute to a safer Umeå with better flows in the city centre. During seven intensive days in August, you will have the chance to combine your creativity with valuable insights from five design workshops conducted during the spring.

Prototype Week is a unique opportunity for creative people to make a concrete impact on the future of Umeå. We are looking for driven participants who want to make a difference and develop sustainable, real-world solutions that make our city safer and even more welcoming," says Frida Wimelius, which together with Fanny Lindén runs the project at eXpression Umeå.

Together with your team, you will develop concrete ideas and build prototypes for a safer city centre, with a special focus on Vasaplan. The results will be exhibited and presented to both partners and the citizens of Umeå at the end of the project.

The prototypes produced shall:

  • Creating good flows of people
  • Provide security and trust around the clock
  • Building on what already works, with impacts that can be realised within 2-5 years

Prototype Week is a collaboration between eXpression Umeå, UPAB, Ultra and Balticgruppen. Together we also collaborate with UmeBrå, Umeå municipality, the police and the field group.

Umeå needs a vibrant and attractive city centre. To strengthen the city's public spaces and meeting places, collaboration between us as community developers and other actors is needed. Supporting this project is therefore a matter of course for us. We hope it will result in several sustainable and creative solutions that create vibrant, safe environments for visitors to the city centre," says Susanne Waleij, Head of HR and Communications at the Baltic Group.

Umeå's local transport service, Ultra, has one of the safest public transport services in the country. Vasaplan in Umeå city centre is by far our largest stop. Continuing to develop safety at our city centre stop is strategically important in our joint efforts to ensure that Umeå's continued expansion is safe and secure," says Fredrik Forsell, Head of Public Transport and responsible for Ultra, at Umeå kommunföretag.
