Sweden's artistic, cultural and creative industries are a large share of the country's innovative power and play a crucial role in shaping the sustainable development of the future - and Umeå's creators are at the forefront. During Design Week, eXpression Umeå will be taking place with a a series of initiatives to highlight the strong local network of creative entrepreneurs and at the same time takes the opportunity to celebrate six years as incubator.
- Umeå is today a hub for the cultural and creative industries, and we are very proud to take our place this week together with creators from eXpression, with leading designers, architects, artists, musicians, filmmakers and fashion designers as building strong ecosystems of collaboration to grow nationally and internationally," said Marlene Johansson, CEO of eXpression Umeå.
Design Week which this year takes place between 31 August and 4 September, is organised in cooperation with the network Design by Umeå which consists of Umeå municipality, Umeå School of Design, School of Architecture, School of Fine Arts, Bildmuseet, Artic Design of Sweden, RISE and eXpression Umeå. The aim of the collaboration is to promote and the region's creative innovation and co-creation, world-improvement, passion and progressiveness are natural ingredients.
As one of Sweden's leading incubators for the the artistic, cultural and creative industries, eXpression Umeå wants to take the opportunity during Design Week to both celebrate and acknowledge creators who are constantly breaking new ground, challenging current business models and, as and who, thanks to their strong networks, have managed to resist when times get tough.
- We all face complex challenges today, not least because of the the ongoing pandemic. However, many companies in the creative industries have resilience in the past because they have built their businesses through strong ecosystems and collaboration. "The 'do it yourself' culture in combined with the co-creation of new innovative business models is the way the way forward, and we want to demonstrate this together," says Marlene Johansson.
eXpression Umeå also takes the opportunity to celebrate six years as an incubator, which will be celebrated on Tuesday at lunch when CreativeMeetup is arranged - a live digital event with panel discussions, film screenings and music.
