Five quick questions for Design by Björk who creates fashion for wheelchair users

Meet Karin Björk who dared to bet on its business concept to create designer garments for wheelchair users that are stylish, comfortable and provide confidence to take their place in society. Karin talks about what drives her, what's going on right now and how she sees the future of her business.

What made you dare to invest in the company?
- I've been thinking about this for years, just waiting for someone else to take that spot on the market. Just before I was about to fill even, I decided to drive and realized that if I didn't try, I would regret it when I got old.

What do you want to achieve with your company - something you want to develop?
- In general, it is "to make society more inclusive" and for customers to have a range of fashion items to choose from. They should be able to feel both dressed and stylish, but also confident, to take their place in society. In this way, I want to make a difference and help society move in the right direction.

Is there something new to tell the world - something special going on?
- I am developing a couple of new garments and testing new fabrics. The garments I'm working on now are a skirt and a pair of more feminine summer trousers. Then there will be more...

How do you see the future of your industry and how do you want to be part of it in 5 years?
- The industry needs updating, even if more people are starting to talk about "fashion for all". In five years' time, I want to have a whole collection, from outerwear to party wear, and some other products like bags. I'm also on the international market and have such a turnover that I have employees.

What is your advice if you have a business idea?
- Dare. Find a niche or angle that you are alone in and dare to try and go for it. If you also live here in the Umeå region, there are several actors who have the task of supporting startups in various sectors. Everything from Umeå municipality, ALMI and the New Business Centre to our business incubators - and especially eXpression Umeå, which is and has been extremely important to me.
