On 25 January, the Folkets Hus and Bildmuseet in Umeå will host the world premiere of a new concept called The Real Group Lab. Through interactive workshops and new methods participants explore and develop the creativity of each unique individual and constellation of people. Together with participants, they explore also the role of culture in creating a just, sustainable and peaceful world.

The Real Group Lab wants to change the way we sing in groups and at the same time inspire an awareness of the individual's responsibility, both musically and socially. The focus is on playful and intuitive creation and collaboration around rhythm, harmony and melody. Rotated musical initiative is a concrete example of how new ways of singing can inspire new ways of looking at how the individual can take responsibility in their relationship with the group and the environment. By singing together, individuals and groups can be inspired to contribute to a just, sustainable and peaceful world. With 'inner growth' we have a long-term impact on the society we live in.

"Participants learn to sing in a way that is truly vibrant, resulting in increased self-confidence, safety in the group and social training that also provides an intuitive experience of what a better world could look like, in both small and large ways," says Peder Karlsson. We know that people who sing and exercise feel better, which can also have major positive effects on society as a whole. For example, an improved quality of life also improves people's health.

Peder Karlsson, one of the founders of the internationally active singing group The Real Group, has been a professional singer, artist and artistic director in various contexts for more than 30 years. For the past five years, Peder has been a professor of innovative choral conducting in Denmark. After travelling around the world performing and teaching, Peder now focuses on training choir leaders and singers in co-creative singing. Over the years, he has seen that there is a general lack of understanding in European choral culture of the role of individual choral singers in creating both sound and rhythm as a whole.

-Experiencing singing and rhythm together in a group is empowering for each participant. You develop your self-confidence, gain tools to take musical initiatives and build an understanding of leadership. Above all, you will have a direct experience of the power of doing something together in rhythm and harmony, a collaboration without words. Peder Karlsson. We want to give participants an experience where they can feel how we are part of something bigger than ourselves; how we are getting closer to a better world. Choral singing becomes a microcosm of a world in balance.

The Real Group Lab is an initiative of Peder Karlsson, Katarina Henryson and Morten Vinther.
