Six creators and artists from the Umeå area start together Art-in in Utopiagallerian on 10 September. The concept, which is a mix of shop and exhibition space, is intended to make the city centre more interesting and creative.
- We want good locally produced art and design to be more accessible to everyone," says Erica Forsman, one of the initiators.
Art-in alludes to the more familiar idea of drive-in. The idea is to be a place in the city centre where ordinary people can easily drop by and enjoy art and design from local creators. The space will be open Friday through Sunday. Initially until the end of the year.
We hope to develop the concept during the autumn. The focus is on exhibitions and trading opportunities, but we have talked about trying to organise workshops. We'll take it since," says Erica.
In addition to Erica Forsman, who runs Slow Pace Studio, five other creators are involved in the initiative. The idea was sparked by Maria Lundström after she invited the others to exhibit at her home in Gräsmyr, as part of the Formstråket in Nordmaling municipality.
There had been too much silence since the pandemic started. Everyone felt that something needed to happen. Maria found a venue and there were quick moves. We got together and landed in Konst-in. We see it as an opportunity to showcase our art and at the same time create something interesting in the city that everyone can enjoy," says Erica.
