The UMA Furniture Fair architectural competition is over and the architects behind the winning entries are Emma Nordström, Alva Westlund, Roni Amini and William Tholl. They were judged on 3 categories - Innovative, Jolly and Tectonic. All entries were presented during a vernissage in early December at the entrance of the Umeå School of Architecture.
Here are the winning entries with the jury's comments:
The Ground knot
TECTONIC: The Ground knot - Emma Nordström
Juryn's comment: "We are not sure if it's tectonic but we love it."
Old Sparky
INNOVATIVE: Old Sparky - Alva Westlund & Roni Amini
Juryns kommentar: "The emanating chair with the lovely hidden lighting mechanism. Curiosity for when the light is needed."
Floating Spiral
JOLLY: Floating Spiral - William Tholl
Juryn's comment: "Enjoyed the material exploration and performance of the object. Would love to see it in a house with a cat."
HONOURABLE MENTION
HONORABLE MENTION - Linnea Jönsson
The jury's comment: "UMA Furniture Fair and the jury, want to highlight a great object for lighting. The drum stand in combination with a steel barrel was highly praised in the evaluation."

UMA Furniture Fair is a student initiative by students Fredrika Lindvall, Axel Gillblad and Richard Lövby where Expression Umeå is a proud sponsor. The aim of the competition was for students to develop their skills and understanding of craftsmanship, materials and furniture, as an architectural element.
