New project focuses on cultural heritage and circular business models

eXpression and RISE have received almost SEK 12 million for the Creative Norrland project, which focuses on innovation, cultural heritage and circular business models. The aim is to increase the competitiveness of companies in Norrbotten and Västerbotten through expert support, new meeting places and increased knowledge of sustainable production methods.

"With Kreativa Norrland, we get the chance to give companies in-depth knowledge of the local cultural heritage and support in how it can be used to develop new products, business ideas and brands. The goal is to create a stronger business community but also to raise awareness in society of how important these companies are," says Barbro Renkel, CEO of eXpression Umeå.

The project is divided into three main actions.

  • The first is about creating both physical and digital meeting places where businesses and entrepreneurs can network, share knowledge and inspire each other. We will also produce and disseminate stories about companies and entrepreneurs who have made a lasting impression, and develop the brand and podcast "Kreativa Norrland".
  • The second action focuses on strengthening entrepreneurship through design workshops and offering coaching and counselling on the ground. It will emphasise the importance of cultural heritage, often linked to geographical location, and how it can contribute to the development of new business ideas, brands and products.
  • The third and final action is about sustainable production and consumption. The S-P-O-K platform will be developed to connect local producers with cultural and creative businesses, promoting local sustainable production. We will also work to increase businesses' knowledge of circular business models and processes.

Co-financiers in Västerbotten are ERDF, Region Västerbotten, Umeå Municipality and the Baltic Group.

The project will start this autumn and run for three years.
