PERIGON INVESTS IN 360 TECHNOLOGY TO MEET THE CHALLENGES OF E-COMMERCE

Perigon is the first company in Västerbotten to specialise in a new type of interactive product images using 360 technology. The technology means that the images can provide a more realistic and rich experience of the product, something that is becoming an increasingly important factor in e-commerce today.

- Through 360 technology, we can take e-commerce a step further. A more nuanced and authentic view of the product allows the customer to make more informed and conscious choices. And by extension - reduce the number of repurchases and returns. Shipping is a major challenge and environmental problem in e-commerce today, and being able to help reduce the number of parcels shipped back and forth feels both good and important. Nanny Ålander, Perigon's founder and CEO.

The biggest challenge for e-commerce is the amount of repurchases, and as physical trade declines, e-commerce continues to grow. In 2019, e-commerce increased by 13% compared to the previous year and equated to 87 million in turnover, according to Postnord's e-barometer, which is produced in collaboration with the Swedish Commerce Federation and HUI Research.According to the same report, e-commerce is expected to reach 100 billion in turnover by 2021.

- When we did market research for the launch of Perigon, we found that 24% of respondents had made repurchases because the product didn't look the way they thought it would. Aside from being more environmentally friendly, the technology is also a time-saver for both the consumer and the company selling the product, says Nanny Ålander

360 images can provide a more realistic experience of the product where traditional product photography falls short. The benefits of 360° images are that they reduce the number of repurchases and indirectly contribute to a smaller ecological footprint. We see digital channels becoming more and more interactive with users. Today, consumers expect to be able to interact with companies via digital channels. Accessibility, transparency and thoughtful choices are becoming important. We also see that companies that have a holistic approach to sustainability have a huge head start as it is something that is increasingly demanded by consumers.

Perigon is a mathematical term for 360 degrees and refers to the technology behind the interactive images. The user can rotate and enlarge the object 360 degrees. This gives the consumer a clearer picture of what the object looks like from all angles and allows them to zoom in to see details. This can help reduce hesitation before the purchase.
