Riesling in Rock

Riesling in Rock

Kristian Rönnlund, who runs the company Visionary Wine, has recently published his master's thesis "Risesling in Rock". The thesis shows the impact of music on the experience of wine. Through quantitative studies, he has mapped how sound affects the effect of basic flavours, specific flavours and aromas in wine.

The results, together with previous research, suggest that it is possible to tailor specific sound elements such as pitch, choice of instrument, tempo and mood to intensify the flavours and aromas of a wine. In this way, the level of appreciation for the wine can be increased.

"It's really exciting to be involved in identifying the sound elements that enhance the experience of specific wines," he says. Kristian Rönnlund

Kristian Rönnlund trained as a sommelier and gastronome at Umeå University and through his company Visionary Wine he participates in the Creatives incubator programme.
