On Thursday 14 November, the business incubator eXpression Umeå will inaugurate the new eXpression Pop-in space in the MVG gallery together with creators and entrepreneurs. During the inauguration, these collaborations will be presented through talks and music performances.
eXpression pop-in has been prototyped together with students from Umeå University during a 12-hour workshop led by Anna Parry, Proto Projects. The prototypes were then handed over to Maria Östensson, Östensson Design Studio and now eXpression Pop-in is ready for Umeå's creative industries to create exciting new collaborations, products and services, test new business models and strengthen their brands.
It is unique that an incubator for the artistic and creative industries takes place in the city centre and in a gallery. We have started from the design process together with students from the School of Design, the School of Architecture and the School of Economics and it is fantastic that our creators, designers from Proto Project and Östensson's Design Studio work together with students and develop innovative concepts, an environment that is inspiring, creative, safe and based on a sustainability mindset for the future city centre, Marlene Johansson, CEO, eXpression Umeå.
Already on the opening day, Pia Stylist and Co take the stage together with their partners to show combinations of rentals, sale and lending of clothes in combination with hairdressing treatments, style and eyewear advice.
Pia is one of the many exciting examples of companies and creators who will be working in the eXpression Pop-in. The ambition is to try out new concepts, explore collaboration and thereby contribute to retail and urban development, says Annakarin Nyberg, programme manager of Future Retail Lab.
With creative conversations between Johan Björn from MURAL Architecture, Jonas Sandström who runs Nimble:BI, Karin Björk from design by björk and Maria Östensson Östensson Design Studio, we get to listen the possibilities that a surface like eXpression Pop-in can create. This, together with music performance by Irene Moragas, we let the surface become a natural place for the creative and artistic industries, a starting point for more collaborations and a stronger voice in the city centre.
Inauguration moderated by Annakarin Nyberg and food will be served from Tonka Bistro Café.
