On Thursday 24 January, actors in the fields of form, design and architecture will gather to talk about the design of attractive cities; as a business and from a sustainability perspective. Sustainable design with the capacity to improve requires creativity that is allowed to take place and develop. And creativity is a prerequisite for meeting the accelerating need for innovation in a changing world. The day is organised in conjunction with Västerbotten at the Grand Hôtel by eXpression and Arctic Design of Sweden.
- Entrepreneurship based on design represents important industries for Västerbotten and not least in building a sustainable, attractive county with a view to the future. On Thursday 24 January at the Grand Hôtel in Stockholm, we have gathered many interesting voices under the umbrella of design," says Camilla Thorn Wollnert, regional culture manager Region Västerbotten.
eXpression Umeå together with Artic Design of Sweden, Region Västerbotten, Umeå University and Umeå Municipality invite you to an afternoon during Västerbotten at Grand Hôtel on 24 January where the power of design, art and creative industries, its role and how it helps us to shape the future is in focus. For us, our businesses and communities, locally and globally.
- Design, art, architecture and the creative industries are strong in our region even on the global stage and we are happy to make this day in wide collaboration, says Marlene Johanssonvd eXpression.
The programme features the textile artist Viktoria Melinder, whose textile was displayed at the Swedish Embassy in Tokyo last year during the celebration of 150 years of diplomatic relations between Sweden and Japan.
Katrin Holmqvist Sten, Head of the Umeå School of Fine Arts, will talk about the School of Fine Arts in a global world: interfaces and friction; about how Sweden's northernmost liberal arts programme challenges and tests boundaries within the university and on an international art scene.
The programme also features strong voices such as Karina Eriksson-Waern, Rector, Beckmans School of Design, Mats Widbom, CEO of Svensk Form, Lotta Ahlvar, Design Sweden, Demian Horst, Vice-Rector Umeå Institute of Design and others.
- It is welcome and important that Region Västerbotten in this way highlights that sustainable cities and design is one of our major future issues. I see design as the link between technology/innovation and people/society in the necessary transformation to a sustainable society," says Mats Widbom, CEO of Svensk Form.
