The ideas from Prototype Week are now collected in a digital vernissage. During the week, students and creators developed three public prototypes in Umeå's city centre, focusing on safety and movement in the city centre - ideas that show how design can create community and well-being in the city.
- "We are all impressed by the prototypes that the groups have produced in such a short time," says Fanny Lindén, one of the project leaders.
During the week, three interdisciplinary groups worked intensively on research, sketching and practical tests directly in the urban environment. The ideas were first presented during a vernissage in the Utopia neighbourhood and are now gathered in a digital vernissage, where everyone can share the results.
The prototypes in brief:
Interaction zone - a place designed for caring and interaction between people, where small design touches encourage people to slow down, see each other and co-exist in traffic.
Look up - see each other - interventions at Vasaplan that help people look up, become more aware of their surroundings and create safety through increased interaction.
Conductive light - a concept that connects Vasaplan and Vasagatan with playful LED lights that guide travellers, enhance safety and make the place more inviting.
Prototype Week is organised and led by eXpression Umeå. This year's edition was organised in close collaboration with Baltic Groups, UPAB and Ultra, with funding from the European Regional Development Fund.
