Katarina Paulsson from Sikeå is both a gardener and a designer. Whatever she does, her goal is to create a lasting impression that conveys a sense of excitement and presence.
Katarina is currently one of the participants in eXpression Design. We had the opportunity to check the situation in the middle of the programme.
Tell us about your company and your creativity.
My company is called Trädgårdsmästaren i Sikeå and I offer various types of gardening services such as garden design, maintenance and landscaping. I combine my expertise in gardening with my love of craftsmanship and design and enjoy working on projects.
At the moment Katarina is working on a larger project where she is designing a playground for the Robertsfors Bruksmuseum. She is in charge of the whole process from design to the actual carpentry and construction of the playground.
Since the gardening season is short here in the north, and because I am passionate about so many other things, I want to develop this design and crafts and make locally produced products during the winter.
What is it about gardening and design that attracts you?
I love the very enchantment of both expressions. Taking out the fantasy world that is in my head and placing it in reality. There's something so incredibly satisfying about both the process itself of how a thought unfolds and seeing something take physical form.
Giving someone else something that creates a feeling of rapture, presence or satisfaction. That's magic, whether it's gardening or design.
How do you see the future of your company?
I am so excited about my business and to see what unfolds. I have a lot of different threads to pull and I feel like it could go in a lot of different directions. It all feels super exciting! But I think the future will involve bigger creative projects with others, mixed with more gardening, designing and crafting.
The gardener in Sikeå is a relatively new company. Several pieces are still being put in place.
Katarina often comes back to the challenge of being an entrepreneur in a time of climate crisis and reflects a lot on how to relate to everything that is happening.
Can you give any clues as to what you think we'll see at the launch in May?
My product is a mix of an antique material meeting modern design, with a surface that flirts with woodwork. A thing that will last for generations.
What do you hope to convey with your product?
Long-lasting with good design," concludes the Sikeå gardener, Katarina Paulsson.
