Creator and entrepreneur Lisa Karlsson, who runs Ume Projects and participates in Creatives, has created a Christmas atmosphere in central Umeå through detailed and classic Christmas patterns. The assignment comes from Visit Umeå and resulted in two Christmas windows with themes of second hand, sustainable Christmas and DIY spirit.
eXpression spoke to Lisa to hear her thoughts on the signage and her tips for successful Christmas decorating.
How fun with pure classic Christmas signage in the city, how did you think about the feeling you wanted to create and convey?
- We wanted to create two shop windows that felt warm and detailed. At this time of year, I think it's especially important to feel the Christmas spirit.
Where does the inspiration come from?
- The themes were sustainability and classic Christmas. The sustainable shop window features things you can make yourself and use again, poinsettias made from waste bags, grand decorations made from champagne corks, wreaths of various kinds and even Christmas trees from last year. There's even a "Corona crane" made from plastic gloves, decorated with hand sanitizer and the star is the spatula - felt like a must this Christmas.
In the classic window, only vintage bought from secondhand and flea markets works so well today.
Do you have tips on places in Umeå to find nice Christmas decorations?
- Myrorna, PMU, Röda Korset, Åhlens, H&M home, At home and Panduro.
Signage is your expertise and your everyday life. What should you consider when it comes to reaching out with your signage?
- Detail is important, so that people stop and have to look for a while to see everything. Then to put it together as a whole so it feels like a clear message.
How do you create the finest Christmas decoration according to you?
Mix, reuse and craft your own unique Christmas decoration. The most important thing is to find your own style this Christmas.
Christmas windows can be seen until the end of the year IRL here.
