Meet Factivist Sarita Nath

Meet Factivist Sarita Nath

Sarita participates in the F/Act Movement project which started at the end of August. The project means that participants are not allowed to consume new clothes for nine months.

Now you are almost 4 weeks into the project and 8 months to go - how does it feel?
- I don't think of the project as a 9-month long period of buying freeze on newly produced fashion. Instead, I'm taking it one week at a time when it feels more tangible. The thing that feels the hardest is posting on Instagram regularly. Having to meet all the guidelines we've been given.

What are your hopes and expectations?
- My hope is to inspire others to reflect on their consumption and get away from wasteful behaviour. And for myself, it's to become more savvy and comfortable with being seen and sharing my life on social media.

You've done a big wardrobe clear-out, how was it?
It was a great feeling when it was done! I have a lot of clothes and took help from a friend for this. Went through everything, purged, sorted and what would be left I hung back in as usual. We also got a great tip in the comments from Monika Kichau* - to hang in outfits instead of sorted by garment type.

Can you share anything you have particularly appreciated from what you have done/learned so far?
I really appreciate the microcourse we've been taking part in - activating our wardrobe and rethinking how we wear the clothes we already have! I think it is actually available for everyone to take part in. As I mentioned here before, the wardrobe cleanse is a really lovely thing to do.

Today you go to the fashion show in eXpression PopIn!
Exactly, I'm always so happy when I get asked by Lisa** if I can and want to go to the fashion show she organizes. I'm not a model, but she chooses lovely "ordinary" people to showcase local fashion and I'm happy to contribute to that.

*Monika is a stylist and during the f/activists' next meeting she will lecture and workshop with them about style/styling and second hand.

*Lisa Karlsson runs a company called UmeProjects at eXpression and among other things, she organizes various events and manages various projects.
