Creativity in focus when Europeans visit Umeå

This week, eXpression and Umeå have been visited by a bunch of Europeans who are all participating in the Interreg project Carpe Digem. The focus was on cultural and creative industries and the ability to capitalise on the region's unique values. Among others, Victor Hillebjörk and We Music Factory participated in a rousing workshop.

eXpression Umeå is one of ten partners from seven different European countries collaborating in the Carpe Digem project. The aim is to develop inclusive digital innovation ecosystems and services that meet current and future needs.

Much of the project is about exchanging experiences and being inspired by each other - not least through visits and travel. This time it was eXpression Umeå together with Region Västerbotten that hosted the project.

Visitors had the opportunity to discover the artistic campus and delve into the contribution of cultural and creative industries to an attractive and progressive society.

Umeå's creativity evangelist Victor Hillebjörk from Meraki Maker talked about the most important skill of the future: creativity.

A much appreciated feature was Victor Hillebjörk's (Meraki Maker) lecture on creativity followed by We Music Factory's music workshop.

Participants had the opportunity to record music without real instruments. Sounds were created by various objects in the room and were sampled and put together into a hit song by producers Milad Beky and Matthew Carlstedt.

eXpression also organised a workshop where the design process was taught.

Milad Beky and Matthew Carlstedt from We Music Factory offered a music workshop that engaged the participants.

Interreg Europe is an EU programme that co-funds projects aimed at creating opportunities and environments where experience of smart solutions and policies is shared between different actors. The programme seeks to ensure that public investment, innovation and action lead to sustainable development for people and places.
