Applications are now open for Summer eXpression - a summer programme for students and young designers. With the theme of transformation and a focus on textile waste streams, you will spend four weeks in Umeå developing new products or circular business ideas, in an environment characterised by creation, coaching and community.
- "Summer eXpression is a place where you can test ideas for real and develop them together with others, in a creative environment supported by national experts," says Fanny Lindén, Programme Manager for Summer eXpression.
The programme is implemented in cooperation with Swedish Mould and with the support of The Kamprad Family Foundation. The mission is to explore and further develop textile residual streams - a material that both challenges and opens up new perspectives on form, function and sustainable production.
During the programme, you will also gain knowledge and guidance from some of Sweden's leading experts in redesign and sustainable, circular textile production, linked to Swedish School of Textiles in Borås and Lindholmen Science Park in Gothenburg.
- The fact that participants also get to meet producers and manufacturers provides an important understanding of what it takes to take an idea from sketch to something that can actually be produced. It's also about starting to see your idea as something that can become a business," says Fanny Lindén.
The programme takes place over four weeks in Umeå and is aimed at those who study or work in art, design, architecture, textiles, crafts or other creative fields.
During the summer, you will have access to coaching, experts, workshops and a context where you can develop your idea together with others - with the aim of strengthening your ability to take it further, even after the programme.
As part of the application process, you will participate in a Design Challenge on 21 April, where you will work practically with materials and produce a first sketch or prototype.
Applications are open until 17 April.
