In my childhood I often ran barefoot to the huge greenhouse, which my family ran for almost 30 years. Isn't it amazing that a tiny seed germinates until the seed coat bursts and the tiny root pushes its way out?

As a result, the heart-shaped leaves develop and so does the flower bud. Finally, it enters the flowering stage, which in my opinion is when it is at its most beautiful. I want the Gro lamp to set the tone in the home as well as in a public setting. The characteristic undulating shape of the ceiling luminaire not only creates a decorative light source but also opens up a conversation in the room.

I have my roots in Skule, a stone's throw from the High Coast. Which reflects my design language, which is inspired by nature with elements of simple soft shapes combined with timeless, Scandinavian sustainable design with the intention that it will be passed down for generations. For me, nature is so important, therefore a contribution for every lamp sold goes to We forest. To combat climate change and poverty. Many small streams become one big river!

Manufacturing

The ceiling fixture is designed by me and made by hand, so each unit is unique.

The material is steel and it is lacquered with a beautiful brown shimmering semi-matt powder coating that gives different life depending on the light incidence or time of day in the room. The lamp hangs from a wire which gives the impression that the lamp is floating and is easy to adjust to the desired height. The cable is two twisted fabric cables with the colour brown.

About the designer

Molly Åkerstedt is a trained goldsmith at Sweden's best goldsmithing school - the Goldsmithing Technology Crafts Programme in Mjölby. Today she works in a small family business in Örnsköldsvik, and is the first female and only active blacksmith in town.
