About eXpression
eXpression Umeå is a business incubator that enables the development of driven entrepreneurs and creators with ideas, innovations or businesses in the artistic, cultural and creative industries. We offer effective and innovative methods, a creative coworking environment and a prototype lab.
75% of eXpression Umeå is owned by Umeå University and 25% by Umeå municipality.
Staff
eXpressions staff are creators, thinkers, explorers and creators. We approach the job with great curiosity, generosity and respect. Based on our experience, we help creators, just like you, to develop your idea, innovation into sustainable businesses.
Usually we are available at the office, email and phone during office hours 08-17. Unless otherwise stated, you can expect feedback within 24h.

Premises
eXpression Umeå's premises are in Sliperiet on the Arts Campus. The building also houses Umeå University's activities Curiosum and the School of Architecture.
Passport
Skalet på huset samt dörren in till eXpression Umeås lokaler på våning 3 är vanligtvis låsta och för att ta sig in behöver du ett passerkort. Som deltagare i något av eXpression Umeås program har du möjlighet att få ett sådant. Prata med din ansvariga affärscoach alternativt programansvarig för det program du deltar i så hjälper vi dig.
Office space
Entrepreneurs participating in one of eXpression Umeå's business development programmes have the opportunity to rent an office space. Below are the different options offered and the cost of these (prices are quoted excluding VAT).
- Cleandesk 1400 SEK/month
- Own desk 1800 SEK/month
- Studio 3800 SEK/month
If you need to move to a larger or smaller space during the business development programme, just contact your responsible business coach or programme officer.
Meeting room
On floor 3 of eXpression Umeå's premises there are four meeting rooms. These are available to all contractors and staff. They are open and do not need to be booked.
If you need to reserve a room for a meeting, you can leave a post-it on the door with information about who booked the room, what time and day.
There are also larger meeting rooms and facilities in the building that can be booked. Please contact your responsible business coach if you wish to do so.
The kitchen
A staff kitchen is available on level 3. The kitchen has a coffee machine, access to kitchen equipment for heating and, to some extent, cooking. In the kitchen, each person is responsible for keeping the kitchen clean and tidy at all times.
Städvecka – Varannan vecka är eXpression ansvarig för köket. Det innebär att vi ser till att diskmaskinen plockas i, körs och töms varje dag, vi torkar av bord och diskbänkar samt mikrovågsugnar.
Breakfast
Every Wednesday at 08.15, eXpression offers breakfast for all participants in the business development programmes. It is a great opportunity to meet and socialise with other entrepreneurs, initiate collaborations and get to know people from other programmes.
After Work
On the last Friday of each month, eXpression invites all participants in the business development programmes to an after-work event. Usually from 16.00 in the kitchen on the third floor. Bring your own applies!
Fredagsrundan
Varje fredag kl 14.00 ses vi i köket, dricker kaffe och pratar om vad som händer just nu i respektive bolag, vi bollar idéer och lyfter eventuella utmaningar.
Makerspaces
The premises have two makerspaces run by Curiosum. On the ground floor there is a makerspace focusing on hard materials and on the second floor there is a makerspace focusing on soft materials. If necessary, you as an entrepreneur in one of eXpression Umeå's business development programmes can use these.

A marked mailbox is included for you with office space at eXpression Umeå during the lease period. Contact the responsible business coach to get access to a mailbox. Outgoing mail is left in a marked box on the shelf opposite the mailboxes.

Storage
Outside the kitchen there are several storage cupboards with locking facilities. Please use these if you don't want to leave materials or equipment at your place.
Cleaning
Cleaning is done by Umeå University. They empty waste bins and mop the floors.
Each person is responsible for maintaining good order at his/her workplace and for emptying the wastepaper basket himself/herself when necessary. There is a shared responsibility for the common areas of the premises. Please be aware that contractors use the premises for client meetings and that we are happy to receive guests in these therefore we want it to be as representative as possible.
Animals
Pets may not be brought to or kept on University premises. Guide dogs for the visually impaired are not considered pets and may be brought and kept on University premises.
Parking
There are not many parking spaces around Sliperiet, but a few are available. Here are a few:
- Street parking along Pilgatan.
- Parking spaces along Östra Strandgatan (between the School of Design and IKSU Plus).
- Next to Sliperiet on Östra Strandgatan.
Brand
In the event of a fire alarm, everyone leaves the building immediately. Gather at the "count-in" assembly point. The location of the assembly point will be communicated when the access card is issued. Map of evacuation routes is available on each floor and at the entrance door to level 3.
A fire drill is held once a year.
Printers
On level 3 there is a wireless colour printer/copier/scanner that you as a contractor have access to. The printer prints in A4/A3 format. The printer can handle paper thicknesses up to 280g. Thicker paper is provided by you.

Insurance
eXpression Umeå's insurance covers fixed and movable property belonging to eXpression. Movable property belonging to tenants, such as computers, cameras, telephones, etc. are not covered by eXpression's insurance but must be insured by the tenant himself.
