Architect & design office MURAL architecture in Umeå was given the task to activate the outdoor area on Mariehemsskolan into a place for imaginative movement. The solution was a hand-painted and site-specific movement path.
Johan Björn and Kim Granberg, the founders of MURAL architecture, have used graffiti art to paint a creative and educational outdoor track to create spontaneous, imaginative and active play where movement is at the centre. An outdoor space for otherwise sedentary children to move and have fun.
The inspiration for the course comes from the world of computer games, an interest that many of the children share, says Johan.
It's about stimulating children's imaginations and making it fun for them to move," Kim continues.
