Networking lunch: How AI Act affects your business

Networking lunch: How AI Act affects your business

On Friday 14 November, entrepreneurs and creators gathered at eXpression Umeå to find out what the EU's new AI regulation, the AI Act, actually means in practice. Together with three experts from RISE, participants were given a clear overview of why the regulation is being introduced, how the risk levels are structured and what requirements apply to organisations that develop or use AI systems.

The speakers shared both legal perspectives and practical examples, from documentation requirements and transparency to what it takes to comply with the regulation's security and accountability requirements. The networking lunch concluded with concrete tips and a checklist for how companies can start preparing now for the entry into force of the AI Act.

Maria Isaksson, which together with Linda Lundman driver The pedagogue's box, was one of the participants and appreciated the opportunity to listen to experts in AI and law:

There is so much going on in the world of AI and it requires great awareness and keeping up to date. It was very valuable to sit together in a group, discuss and ask questions.

Participants:
- Åse Lundh Gravenius, Senior Researcher & Legal Expert, RISE
- Christoffer Juhlin, Project Manager Digitalisation and AI, RISE
- Oskar Riby, Project Manager, RISE

Three good takeaways:

1. the AI Regulation is now in force and is being phased in.
It started to apply in August 2024 and will be phased in until August 2027.

2. the rules apply to multiple roles related to AI
The regulation imposes requirements on developers, suppliers, providers and users of AI systems. The Confederation of Swedish Enterprise has developed checklists to help organisations prepare.

3. AI is categorised into four risk levels.
The risk levels range from minimal to unacceptable risk. The requirements of the legislation depend on the risk level to which the AI system belongs.
