Umeå's entrepreneurs are celebrated with a big gala
From spectacular action movies to connected buses, chocolate making and biomedicine. The breadth was great when Umeå's entrepreneurs were celebrated at this year's Umeågala.
Price New Entrepreneur of the Year 2015 went to Uminova eXpression-based David Sandberg and Laser Unicorns Productions AB with the motivation:
The new entrepreneurs of the year in Umeå 2015 have brought new ways of thinking to Umeå's business community. The company is imbued with a "do-it-yourself" spirit and is not afraid to break new ground, even if it means challenging the established. The New Entrepreneur of the Year winner has taken a profitable approach to old truths, forms and knowledge. It is not just Umeå that has been put on the map, but the whole of the Kingdom of Sweden. The New Entrepreneur of the Year award goes to David Sandberg, Laser Unicorns Productions AB.

- It is this fantastic team that made it possible that we got the film out, says Kristina Bergwall, newly appointed CEO of Laser Unicorn, and points to David Sandberg, Linus Andersson and Elini Young who step up on the Umeågalans stage with her to receive the award as New Entrepreneur of the Year.
Laser Unicorn is the company behind the acclaimed film Kung Fury, which has been a huge international success at the Cannes Film Festival and among Hollywood's top film artists. In her acceptance speech, Kristina Bergwall gave glimpses of the major international breakthrough the company has had with its film.
- It has been a fantastic journey and experience for all of us. David called one day this summer and told me he was having breakfast with Spielberg. Then he called again a while later and said he was having lunch with Schwarzenegger," says Kristina Bergwall.
Gala night host David Helenius looks a little shocked and asks David Sandberg what it was like to meet these giants of the film world.
- It was completely surreal, after that it didn't matter what anyone thought of the film, just eating with Spielberg is more than enough," replies David Sandberg.
