Designers receive design awards at Formex

Two designers associated with eXpression Umeå have been recognised at the Formex design and furniture fair taking place 16-18 January in Stockholm. Lursta Cast Iron is awarded the Formex Sustainability Award 2024 for the product ARVET designed by John Andersson. Jessica Persson who runs Rum och Flora is chosen as a favourite by trend specialist Stefan Nilsson (Trendstefan) with her product Blickfång.

With ARVET, we wanted to update the design language of cast iron - combining the hard, durable with the soft, smooth and comfortable to hold. This is a pan that everyone should want and be able to use consistently. Quality and user friendliness in perfect harmony," says John Andersson, designer at Lursta.

The founder and CEO of Lursta, Andreas Stridkvist, sees the award as a recognition that provides inspiration and energy to continue its sustainability thinking, to constantly explore new solutions that can contribute to an even more sustainable production.

We hope that with this award we can raise awareness of sustainability and inspire even more innovation in both the foundry industry and in kitchen products in general, says Andreas Stridkvist.

Jury's motivation:
Lursta Cast Iron - Arvet Pancake slag
This newcomer is characterised by a high level of craftsmanship and a consistently sustainable approach. Both the pancake slag and its little sister the portion mortar are made from local, recycled scrap and waste from the neighbouring factory. The moulding is done with recycled sand, and the cast iron is treated with rapeseed from fields a stone's throw away. Gold Star for the communication, which conveys that the products can be melted down and become something else - but above all is a loan from future generations.

Jessica Perssons On the first day of Formex, the product Blickfång was chosen as the favourite by Stefan Nilsson, known as Trendstefan.

"It feels great that my product Blickfång has received such good attention. It's great that small-scale local production is appreciated and that many people like me like the fact that a product can bring out your own creativity, says Jessica Persson, Rum and Flora.

Jessica's products are made locally in the High Coast, something she is proud of:

The fact that I know who bent the plates and welded them feels very good.
