After seven intensive summer weeks and close cooperation with regional entrepreneurs this year's Summer eXpression works will be presented to the public on 23 August.
- We've had some fun weeks together, it's always interesting to follow the students' journey with our talented producers. Now it will be exciting to hear what the vernissage visitors think, says Barbro Renkel, business coach at Uminova eXpression and programme manager for Summer eXpression.
Between June and August, ten young designers were given the opportunity to develop their entrepreneurship and test taking a design idea from sketch to finished product. This is the second year of the summer programme and the students' work is now on display.
This year, Summer eXpression has collaborated with Företagarna Västerbotten, which has resulted in both broader and deeper cooperation with several regional producers. Pontus Möller, co-owner of FurnitureFarm, is one of the producers who participated:
- It has been very rewarding for us to work with these young designers, with both exciting products and fun challenges to get involved in. We mainly produce TV benches normally, so this has given us new ideas to spin on.
A total of ten producers have been involved and some of the products developed may also be available for sale from them. During October, the products will also be sold on a trial basis at Designtorget.
- Our ambition is that after the programme students will feel stronger, both in their role as a designer and as an entrepreneur. It's a tough industry, but good collaborations can take you very far," says Barbro Renkel.
Hanna Rönntoft is one of the participants from this year's Summer eXpression. Together with the producer Agraffdesign, she has created a ceramic box that will take its user on an emotional journey into nature.
- Working so close to the production and together with people who really know the material has been very valuable. The feeling was "What, is this possible?". To be able to take an idea and make something out of it, just amazing.
The vernissage will be held in the White Box at Sliperiet, Thursday 23 August, from 17.00-18.30.
