Umeå artist releases Christmas music

Umeå artist and eXpress participant Karl Fjellborg, who writes music under the stage name Mount Borg, is currently releasing new music. This time in the form of a Christmas song, You Felt Like Christmas.

Can you briefly tell us about the song?
"You Felt Like Christmas" is a pretty classic Christmas song with a funky verse and chorus. I felt that most different types of Christmas songs had already been made, so I just wanted to make one that I liked, with strong melodies and the right feel. It's about how you can associate Christmas with different people. For me, I guess those are the people I celebrated Christmas with growing up.

What is your relationship with Christmas?
I have a friend who calls me the grinch. But I don't know, I guess I feel that there are different sides to Christmas. It's very nice to have community, and people coming together. But as I've got older I've also become more and more opposed to consumerism and Christmas being pushed on you in October through advertising and so on. But the message of Christmas, with community, solidarity and warmth, is very nice, and important to celebrate, I think!

How common are Christmas songs in Indie Pop?
I think a lot of people associate Christmas songs with selling out as an artist, haha. But I just try to look at it as a fun thing, and something you can look back on for Christmases to come and enjoy. I would say that Christmas songs are becoming more and more common in the indie scene, even if it's often perhaps done a bit semi-ironically. It can get cheesy quite easily with the lyrics and the different messages in Christmas songs, but I just think it's fun to see how others are taking on that task, and making it their own thing.
